Common Connections Guide

I2C OLED Display (e.g., SSD1306)

Uses the default I2C pins. These displays are typically 3.3V logic compatible.

OLED Pin ESP32 Pin Notes
VCC 3V3 Power from regulator
GND GND Common ground
SCL GPIO 22 Default I2C Clock
SDA GPIO 21 Default I2C Data

16x2 / 20x4 LCD (with I2C Backpack)

Most character LCDs require 5V to power the backlight and logic. The ESP32's 3.3V logic signals on SDA/SCL are usually sufficient to drive the 5V I2C backpack without level shifters.

LCD Pin ESP32 Pin Notes
VCC 5V (VIN) Must power ESP via USB to get 5V here. 3.3V may make screen unreadable.
GND GND Common ground
SCL GPIO 22 Default I2C Clock
